cant get the tire off the car? this is how u do it

When changing to winter tires getting the bolts off is usually the main problem. However sometimes you might find that the tire wont come off even if the bolts are fully loosened. Rather than banging the tire with rubber hammers, real hammers etc etc and potentially breaking the rim - there is a simple solution.

Loosen the bolts one single turn (360 degrees) and then, with the bolts loosened, drive slalom slowly for 10-50 meters or so. After that it should be much easier to get the tire off the car. If not, repeat procedure.

If this happened it means it is extra important to lube the whole thing and clean it and take away rust and old metal. Nothing fancy just make it feel and look clean and lubed and this problem will hopefully not repeat it self.

Also remember to tighten the bolts once you have put the car down from the jack, when it stands on the ground. On alloy rims, re-tighten after 100km.

Good luck

PS with 4wd you can usually wait until you have snow until you change tires, compared to the 2wd cars since they wont be making any headway at all in snow with summer tires. Check local regulations, in Sweden you have to have winter tires if there are winter conditions after the 1st of December. DS

A jet plane, no a cold-start forester

This is not the case with all foresters from 09 and onwards. But as with everything you can always find a lemon and a guy over at www.subaruforester.org did. When cold outside his car would sound like an airplane. Told this to the mechanics and they said it was natural. Obviously he couldn't give them the real noise since the car was hot when he got to the dealer.

But this recording should help :)

(download)

A problem with the AC or some air pump it seems. With this recording they should be able to tell and change the faulty bits

Nice Light-bar / Bullbar for the Forester MY09

This person on this video have managed to get a custom made bull bar for his forester 2009 / 2010.
It looks very nice even though it sticks a bit above the hood but at least you still see the Subaru tag in the front.

Add some comments or contact eccentric on subaruforester.org if you have some ideas on how to get hold of a decent light bar for the forester.

Not your average car

When you are just transporting from a to b, the car is running so smooth that you get chocked when you give lots of gas and suddenly realizes the verh nice drag the powerplant provides. Then you check the gage for average fuel consumption (in this case the diesel version) and understand how little it consumes overall - a broad smile over the lips starts to form. As you get on the gravel roads and make a nice drift over a crested corner, that smile increases and you think; God I am glad I didn't go for that other mainstream car!

A typical subaru day :)

Who said Range Rovers were good off road

According to the guy who shot this sequence he was sitting in a mitsubishi L200 and had no problem driving around in eights on the same spot. The Range rover is not towing. This is not what to expect. Maybe something is wrong with the car?

Subaru Outback SUV of the year 2010

The new all improved Subaru Outback was awarded Motor Trend best SUV of the year for 2010. Last year the all new Subaru Forester took the same title.

This type of car is a "normal" wagon but with higher ground clearance similar to volvo cross country and audi allroad etc. With the new model for 2010 the ground clearance is an impressive 21.5cm and in Europe, where it is launched end of october yearly november, you can get it with the boxer diesel power plant coupled with a 6 speed manual transmission and an impressive entry level range of equipment. The backseat is huge and lots of space for luggage as well.

Some would argue if this type of car can be called an SUV. I would argue that it is an SUV since SUV means sports utility vehicle. This is way more off road and sports capable than most city jeeps or shopping mall jeeps. Dont let the looks deceive. It's been that way with Subaru forever.

The new Subaru is home now (pics)

Took some pictures before it started to get dirty, as it should be. This is the 2010 boxer diesel. It is also equiped with the adventure pack, which includes the front and end silver colored guards below the license plate, the silver protection on the door, mud guards, nicer exhaust pipes (end part) and metal protection skid plate(s) underneith the car. This is the XE model.

In Sweden the models are X, XS and XE. the x is the entry model without rails xenon, CD changer etc etc. With the XS you get everything but leather seats, moonroof and keyless entry and start, which you get on the XE. Navigation is purchased as a separate addon and not part of any of the three "models".

This is the 2010 model so there are some minor updates. So far I have noticed a button in the trunk to lower the backseats and much cleaner looking speed dials (not as much blue).

This car was also treated with paint conservation from DITEC.

I bought it from a dealer who got it from the swedish subaru HQ where one of their staff used it for 3 months. It had 7 000km on the odometer so I could buy it unseen.

There are now 3 engine options to choose from. 2.0 Boxer Diesel (6 manual trans) , Boxer Petrol (manual or auto) and a turbo Petrol. The Turbo is very rare and you dont seem to be able to get it with leather etc. This means that most of the time when you see a forester with a bump on the hood (air intake) you can bet it is a diesel (same on all new subaru models). (Diesel is only an option in eu for the time being so the engine configurations are not the same in Asia and US).

Bad image but you can see the silver thing on the side of the door. The mud guards and the indication of keyless entry and start (black thing on door handle). Keyless means you have a plastic thing in your pocket and without using it you can engage/disengage the alarm and locks as well as start/stop the car with the push of a button. No more trying to find the key and searching all pockets/bags for it.

Here you can see how the four winter tires fit in the trunk. I got a full set nokian haka 5 studded which are really good. On 16" alu rims. The summer tires (fitted) are on the XS/XE model 17" alu rims.
You can also see the updated exhaust pipes and the silver diper (guard). The silver and blue boxer diesel badge!!. Why do you have a badge to show it is a diesel. Well for one thing it is the worlds first Boxer (horizontally opposed) diesel engine. Virtually no diesel vibrations.

Typical Subaru style fog lights. Only the new legacy seems to have stepped away from this trend. The fog lights are very strong and you should not have them on in traffic (of course).

It was a 500km ride home from the dealer, yet I couldnt resist small hunting / lodging roads that I passed almost everywhere.

In småland (a southern part of sweden) there is lots of pine tree and all of it grows in this red gravel. I passed this gravel pit which was open for entry. In the middle there were some rocks and stuff to play with. I tried to learn how to handle the manual in first gear at slow speed and started to get the hang of it. You can go very slow with the 1st gear but you need enough gas for the turbo to engage properly when starting from stand-still.

The ground clearance is 21.5 cm which is very good for this type of car. If you want this type of clearance and nice all wheel drive, keep your eyes out for the new outback, which have been raised in the latest model from its previous 19cm.

The car has got all wheel drive which is a 4 wheel drive that is always engaged. No tricks really, compared to most modern dual sport vehicles that tend to mainly run on front wheels until it slips. The all wheel drive system was one of the reasons I liked subaru. It is very fun and practical. You can turn this car around on 10.5 meters. Very impressive and easy to park.

Being alone and on the first day with the car I didnt do anything serious with the car outside of the road. Just played around and started to learn how the car handles.

The car works really nice on very bumpy or easy offroad conditions where the suspension works very great. It also handles surprisingly well on tarmac even though the car rolls a bit in tight corners. On highway it goes best between 100-140 km/h. It sits very well on the road even though it is effected by side-wind, due to the height and weight parameters.

The headlights are not as powerful as can be expected from this new car even though it has got xenon lights (not on highbeam though). I think this is typical for non-european cars.

The seats are comfortable even on a 500 km ride. I am 190cm long and about 90kg weight and had no problem to fit well. Can also sit behind myself in the backseat which is very good on this size car.

The only downside is the color I guess ;) I wanted something that doesnt need to be cleaned so often (silver). But this had everything I wanted at a price I couldnt resist. With the silver colored details it looks ok in red.

Subaru SEMA Mountain Rescue Vehicle

Based on the 2009 MOTOR TREND SUV of the Year Subaru Forester 2.5XT turbo crossover utility vehicle, the Forester Mountain Rescue Vehicle is designed to help Ski Patrol crews conduct rescues in difficult terrain and weather conditions. The men and women of Ski Patrol risk their lives in the mountains, fighting avalanches, performing daring rescues and keeping unruly skiers and snowboarders from endangering others on the slopes.

SUBARU ULTIMATE OFF-ROAD FORESTER WITH SEMA MOUNTAIN RESCUE VEHICLE

Ready for Rescue Missions

Subaru and skiing have gone together since 1974, when skiers first discovered the all-weather traction of Subaru models with 4-wheel drive. In stock form, the 2009 Forester 2.5XT combines Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive with 8.9 inches of ground clearance, more than other crossover SUVs, which are typically in the 6.5-7 in. range. The Forester Mountain Rescue Concept delivers more than 14 in. of ground clearance through an Air Lift custom adjustable ride height air suspension system.  Added off-road and snow traction is provided by Yokohama Geolandar MTS 30 x 9.5-in. tires on special 15-in. Subaru custom-reversed near-zero offset steel wheels.

That's what I call a fully farkled car!
